How to send photos and videos from your phone to your computer

Moving pictures and videos between devices usually means uploading them to a cloud service first. With TxtDropper they go straight from one device to the other, at the original quality, without compression and without an account.

Step by step

  1. On the sending device, tap the box to choose one or several photos or videos, then press Generate sharing code.
  2. On the receiving device, enter the 6-character code or scan the QR code. Both devices must have this page open.
  3. Watch the progress bar. When it says the transfer is complete, previews appear on the receiving device and you can save each file with the download button.

Good to know

  • Files are sent as they are, so a photo arrives in the exact quality it was taken.
  • You can send up to 2 GB in one transfer. Very large videos need enough free memory on the receiving device, so on older phones send them in smaller batches.
  • Keep the screen on and stay on the page until the transfer is complete. Locking a phone can pause the connection.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free, and do I need an account?
Yes. TxtDropper is free and there is nothing to sign up for. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files stored on a server?
No. Your data travels directly from one device to the other over an encrypted WebRTC connection. We never receive or keep it. When you close the page, it is gone.
Why does the transfer need both pages to stay open?
Because the data goes straight from one browser to the other, both devices must be online for the whole transfer. On a phone, keep the screen on until it says the transfer is complete. If the connection drops, the transfer resumes where it stopped as soon as both pages reconnect.
Can I protect a transfer with a password?
Yes. Set an optional password before generating the code. Everything is then encrypted a second time with AES-GCM, and the receiver must type the password. It cannot be recovered if you forget it.
Can several devices receive at once, and can I install the app?
Yes to both. Tick the option to let several devices join with the same code, or use My Devices to pair your own phone and computer once. On Android you can install TxtDropper and pick Share to TxtDropper from any app.
Does it reduce the quality of my photos or videos?
No. Files are transferred byte for byte, without recompression.
