How to send audio files and voice recordings between devices
Send music, podcasts, voice memos or recordings from one device to another without a cable, a messaging app or an upload. The received tracks can be played right on the page before you save them.
Step by step
- Choose one or several audio files on the sending device and press Generate sharing code.
- Enter the code on the other device, or scan the QR code.
- When the transfer is complete, each track appears with a player so you can check it, and a download button to keep it.
Good to know
- Any common audio format works, such as MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG or FLAC.
- You can send up to 500 MB in a single transfer.
- Both devices need this page open and online until the transfer finishes.
Frequently asked questions
- Is it really free, and do I need an account?
- Yes. TxtDropper is free and there is nothing to sign up for. The site is supported by advertising.
- Are my files stored on a server?
- No. Your data travels directly from one device to the other over an encrypted WebRTC connection. We never receive or keep it. When you close the page, it is gone.
- Why does the transfer need both pages to stay open?
- Because the data goes straight from one browser to the other, both devices must be online for the whole transfer. On a phone, keep the screen on until it says the transfer is complete. If the connection drops, the transfer resumes where it stopped as soon as both pages reconnect.
- Can I protect a transfer with a password?
- Yes. Set an optional password before generating the code. Everything is then encrypted a second time with AES-GCM, and the receiver must type the password. It cannot be recovered if you forget it.
- Can several devices receive at once, and can I install the app?
- Yes to both. Tick the option to let several devices join with the same code, or use My Devices to pair your own phone and computer once. On Android you can install TxtDropper and pick Share to TxtDropper from any app.
- Can I listen to the file before saving it?
- Yes. Once received, every track has a built-in player on the page.
