How to send documents from one device to another

Need a PDF, a Word file or a spreadsheet on another device right now? TxtDropper moves it directly from one browser to the other, with no email attachment size limit, no cloud upload and no account.

Step by step

  1. Pick one or several documents on the sending device, then press Generate sharing code.
  2. On the receiving device, type the 6-character code or scan the QR code.
  3. A progress bar shows the transfer. When it is complete, use the download button next to each file to save it.

Good to know

  • Supported types include PDF, Word (doc, docx), Excel (xls, xlsx), PowerPoint (ppt, pptx), OpenDocument files, text, CSV and ZIP archives.
  • You can send up to 500 MB in a single transfer.
  • On many phones, saving opens the share menu so you can choose Save to Files or another app.
  • On a computer you can also pick a whole folder. It is sent as a single zip file.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free, and do I need an account?
Yes. TxtDropper is free and there is nothing to sign up for. The site is supported by advertising.
Are my files stored on a server?
No. Your data travels directly from one device to the other over an encrypted WebRTC connection. We never receive or keep it. When you close the page, it is gone.
Why does the transfer need both pages to stay open?
Because the data goes straight from one browser to the other, both devices must be online for the whole transfer. On a phone, keep the screen on until it says the transfer is complete. If the connection drops, the transfer resumes where it stopped as soon as both pages reconnect.
Can I protect a transfer with a password?
Yes. Set an optional password before generating the code. Everything is then encrypted a second time with AES-GCM, and the receiver must type the password. It cannot be recovered if you forget it.
Can several devices receive at once, and can I install the app?
Yes to both. Tick the option to let several devices join with the same code, or use My Devices to pair your own phone and computer once. On Android you can install TxtDropper and pick Share to TxtDropper from any app.
Is there a file size limit?
Up to 500 MB per transfer. Since nothing is uploaded to a server, the only real limit is the memory of the receiving device.
